This page will tell about field finds. I live in Hardin County, Ohio. It has been too long since I updated. I will try to be more regular in the future. I can never complain as long as I find something. This past winter I found one of the nicer Adena style points I have ever found. Slight ting in the base, but ok other than that. That was one of those days when you shouldnt be out in 30 degree with wind gusts up to 40, really nasty day, hadn't found a thing had hit all the high spots and was at the far end of the field, when I decided I was headed out. As I pivoted in the mud there it lay. Just goes to show, you are out there for a reason. Just keep looking.
This is bone awl I found last spring. It is rare to find whole bone pieces in this county due to acidic soil conditions. It was in a field I have some success with, just sticking part of the way out in a low spot.
Speaking of fields, most of the fields I hunt are near ancient water sources. Ancient stream beds or glacial lake sites are where I like to hunt. There is less competition the farther you get from the river banks. Yes I occasionally hunt near rivers but you have to be one of the first there after a good rain in order to do much good. I have had some great days on the rivers, but now it is just too tough, there are so many prints it is almost like they are bringing busloads of hunters in. So I encourage people to get out there and hunt the areas the mastadons and herds had to seek out during thier migrations. These are also the areas paleo and archaic man hunted.
Happy hunting and Good luck!
